Valley Health and Co-Sponsors Serve 36 Expectant Moms with Community Baby Shower

[Huntington, West Virginia] November 17, 2023 – Valley Health Systems, Inc. teamed up with five co-sponsors to provide baby gear and education to 36 first-time expectant moms.    The Cabell County Community Baby Shower was held on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Valley Health Pea Ridge Business Center on US Route 60 in Huntington.  The event was open to all first-time moms-to-be and included giveaway baskets valued at $750, games, parenting seminars, and refreshments.  

Expectant moms attended seminars covering breastfeeding, how to recognize postpartum depression, what to expect during labor and delivery, and baby safety before and after the baby is born.

Aetna Better Health of West Virginia, Cabell County Family Support Center, The Health Plan, Unicare, and the United Way of the River Cities co-sponsored the event and helped to pull together this collaborative community effort.

Lena Burdette, Director of Education Initiative at United Way of the River Cities, added, “The community baby shower is a wonderful opportunity to provide new mothers with essential information about baby and postpartum care. Knowledge is crucial for every stage of life, especially concerning parenthood. By teaming up with various agencies, we can offer comprehensive education and resources to help parents navigate this exciting and transformative time.”
