Valley Health debuts new electronic health record and patient portal

HUNTINGTON, WV – On Monday, December 5, Valley Health Systems successfully transitioned to the Epic electronic health record system (EHR). Epic is the industry-leading software for EHR management used by thousands of providers and millions of patients across the globe each day.

Using Epic, Valley Health will provide new features for service delivery, such as improved documentation tools, secure telemedicine options, and simple, safe, and secure transfers of medical care records to and from other providers in the Epic network.

One of the software’s most beneficial assets is MyChart, a robust portal for patients to access and interact with numerous features. MyChart can be accessed through the internet and via a mobile app that is available free in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Through Valley Health MyChart, patients can access their health records or relatives’ records with granted proxy access, review results and physician notes, complete registration documentation and updates, e-check in ahead of their visits, schedule appointments at their convenience, and more.

The implementation of Epic enables Valley Health to provide more efficient care documentation, apply data to help guide clinical services and access for patients, enhancements for patients through Valley Health MyChart, and maintain our focus where it matters: on our patients and their health outcomes.

Steve Shattls, President and CEO, said this transition is just one example of Valley Health Systems’ commitment to providing the excellent health care our patients know they can expect when they visit one of our locations.

“The vision of Valley Health is to be the leader in providing excellent community-based primary health care,” Shattls said. “Although we achieve this vision every day for our patients, it is important to search for ways to enhance our capabilities. Epic will deliver this opportunity through the foundation system and by incorporating strategies and work flows that will further improve our ability to maintain the mission and vision of the organization.”
