Huntington, West Virginia [August 16, 2023] – Valley Health Systems, Inc. is thrilled to announce the award of a $100,000 grant from the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health. Valley Health was selected from among dozens of compelling grant proposals, and will use the funds to support its mental health programming for children and youth in the region. Valley Health plans to expand access to tele mental health services, hold community outreach events, and train community members to reduce stigma regarding mental health by providing education on risk factors, protective factors and available resources.
“The need is great, and we are honored to play a small role in the long-term, positive impacts that will come from the initiatives that received funding this cycle, both in the behavioral health space as well as the other grants approved, addressing the healthcare worker shortage, community and family health, and oral health,” said Jim Fawcett, president of Highmark West Virginia. This initiative that focuses on improving mental health and well-being for young people will offer such valuable tools, and we’re excited to see the positive outcomes of this program.”
