Ask the Expert: Family Resource Event

Presented by Valley Health and the Huntington Coalition for Autism and Neurodiversity (Huntington CAN)

Thursday, April 16 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Pea Ridge Business Center

5636 US-60 Huntington, WV  25705

Families navigating an autism diagnosis often have many questions about what comes next. The Huntington Coalition for Autism and Neurodiversity (Huntington CAN), in partnership with Valley Health Systems, invites families to attend Ask the Expert, a community event designed to provide guidance, education, and support for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents who are waiting for autism testing or who have recently received an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis.

This special event will bring together Valley Health medical and behavioral health professionals along with trusted community therapy providers who specialize in supporting children with developmental and behavioral health needs. Families will have the opportunity to ask questions, learn about available resources, and connect with experts who work with children and families every day.

During Ask the Expert, Valley Health specialists will be available to speak with families from the perspective of pediatrics, child and adolescent psychiatry, and psychology. These professionals can help parents better understand the evaluation process, diagnosis, treatment options, and strategies for supporting children with autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions.

The event will also feature community partners who provide specialized therapies and services, including:

  • Speech therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Feeding and eating therapy
  • Community and educational resources for children with autism

For many families, the time between recognizing developmental concerns and receiving a diagnosis can feel overwhelming. Ask the Expert is designed to help families better understand what resources are available locally and how to navigate the process of accessing care and support services.

Valley Health’s Behavioral Health Advocate team will also be available to assist families who may face barriers to care, such as transportation or navigating service systems. Their goal is to help connect families with the support they need and ensure they feel confident taking the next steps in their child’s care.

Through this partnership between Huntington CAN and Valley Health Systems, the Ask the Expert event aims to strengthen support for families in our region and ensure that children with autism and neurodiverse needs have access to the resources, services, and community connections they deserve.

Families who are interested in attending may reach out to our Behavioral Health Advocate team by calling 304-399-3396, or by emailing HCAN@valleyhealth.org. Providers may send a referral to fax #304-915-0476, with "Ask the Expert" in the notes. Provider referral is not required.
