Claire Dewdney, FNP, Joins Valley Health East Huntington

After more than two decades of caring for patients as a registered nurse, Claire Dewdney, FNP, is beginning a new chapter in her healthcare career at Valley Health East Huntington and began seeing patients September 28, 2026.  Dewdney brings extensive nursing experience to her new role, with a clinical background that spans neonatal and pediatric intensive care, labor and delivery, maternity and newborn care, perioperative services and patient education.

Most recently, Dewdney worked at Cabell Huntington Hospital, where she held roles in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, education and perioperative services, including serving as a clinical coordinator. Earlier in her career, she worked at St. Mary’s Medical Center in labor and delivery, recovery, postpartum and newborn nursery care, as well as postoperative care. She also spent six years at Ruby Memorial Hospital, working in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Maternity Services Unit.

Dewdney earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University and recently completed her Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University. Her clinical interests and skills include health promotion, diagnosis and treatment, obstetric and gynecologic care and collaborative, patient-centered care.

“Claire brings a wealth of clinical experience to her new role as a family nurse practitioner,” said Ben Allan, MD, FAAFP, Valley Health Section Chief for Family Medicine and Internal Medicine. “She has cared for patients and families in a variety of settings and understands the importance of listening, education and working collaboratively to meet each patient’s needs. That perspective will serve her well in family medicine, and we are excited to have her join our East Huntington team.”

“I’m excited to join Valley Health and begin this next chapter of my career as a family nurse practitioner,” Dewdney said. “Nursing has given me the opportunity to care for patients and families through many different stages of life and has shaped the way I approach patient care. I’m looking forward to building lasting relationships with my patients, helping them understand and manage their health, and focusing on prevention and wellness along the way. It’s especially meaningful to me to have the opportunity to continue serving this community in a new role.”

Dewdney lives in Huntington with husband James and her two children Mason and Harper.  When she is not caring for patients, she enjoys: knitting, crocheting, family game night, exercising and gardening.

Dewdney will be seeing patients at Valley Health East Huntington, 85 Donohoe Drive, Huntington, WV 25705.
