[September 27, 2024, Huntington, WV] – Valley Health Systems announces the appointment of its new President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mathew Weimer, who assumes this role after serving as Valley Health’s Interim President and CEO for two months. In addition to his role as a family physician, Dr. Weimer most recently served as Vice President of Health Services & Chief Medical Officer since 2018. In his role as a clinical instructor, he has taught many medical, nurse practitioner, and physician assistant students from multiple institutions over the past 16 years.
Dr. Weimer’s calm leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic set the tone for Valley Health’s impactful response to an unprecedented public health crisis. In the early days of the pandemic, he was instrumental in organizing community collaborations for testing and vaccination, navigating patient care, and providing evidence-based education for Valley Health staff and the community.
“We are thrilled to support the vision Dr. Weimer has for Valley Health, and we are excited for the opportunities to maximize our mission of caring for people, regardless of their ability to pay, in innovative ways that will benefit all patients we serve,” said Mary-Beth Brubeck, Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer.
Dr. Weimer brings extensive experience as he assumes this new role. He is the past chair of the Chief Medical Officer committee of the West Virginia Primary Care Association, and he recently completed a 2-year term on the board of directors for the National Association of Community Health Centers, where he serves as a vice chair of the Clinical Practice Committee. He also sits on the board of trustees for Hospice of Huntington. Since 2016, he has served as a medical director for an Accountable Care Organization in partnership with Aledade, a national leader in value-based care. He has been the protocol review committee chair for the West Virginia Practice-Based Research Network for several years. Dr. Weimer was a founding member of the West Virginia Alliance for Creative Health Solutions and has published multiple scholarly articles, including two articles in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“I am humbled and grateful to lead Valley Health Systems in positively affecting the health of residents of southern West Virginia, southeastern Ohio, and eastern Kentucky. I am also deeply committed to building our collaborative relationships and look forward to working with community partners for the betterment of the people we serve.”
