Valley Health Systems, Inc. proudly announces that Dr. Krista Allen, a dedicated pediatrician with nearly a decade of experience, has been selected to serve on the Epic Pediatric Specialty Steering Board. This prestigious appointment recognizes Dr. Allen’s commitment to excellence in pediatric care and her leadership within the healthcare community.
Dr. Allen currently sees patients at Valley Health – Coal Grove and also rounds in the newborn nursery at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Since joining Valley Health in 2020, she has become known for her compassionate approach and dedication to improving care for all children, especially those in underserved communities.
A native of Louisa, Kentucky, Dr. Allen earned her undergraduate degree in biology, magna cum laude, from the University of Kentucky. She received her medical degree from the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, where she also completed her pediatric residency.
The Epic Pediatric Specialty Steering Board is a peer-elected body composed of clinicians and informaticists from top-tier health systems across the country. The board works in partnership with Epic developers and healthcare organizations to guide system strategy, identify areas for improvement, and shape Epic’s standardized Foundation System, which is used by hundreds of health systems nationwide.
As a Steering Board member, Dr. Allen will focus on developing smoother workflows and creating tools specifically designed to support pediatric patients and providers.
“I’m honored to be part of a team helping shape the future of pediatric care by collaborating with peers to develop EHR tools that support providers in delivering the best possible care to the children and communities we serve,” said Dr. Allen. “It’s humbling and inspiring, and I’m excited to represent the voices and needs of the children in our community. I am hoping to add perspective from the FQHC standpoint, ensuring that Epic will work equally for all children and not just those in traditional health care settings.”
