Valley Health Systems, Inc Helps Sunflower Seeds Reach $100,000 Goal in Aid for Ukraine

Valley Health Systems, Inc. is proud to announce its continued support of Sunflower Seeds Inc., Tri-State Aid for Ukraine, as the nonprofit reaches a major milestone of $100,000 in humanitarian aid. On Tuesday, September 30, a shipment of medical supplies departed the Tri-State area bound for Ukraine, marking a critical step in the ongoing effort to provide life-saving relief to those impacted by the war.

Earlier this year, Valley Health contributed 22,000 medical supply items—including needles, syringes, disposable drapes, and isolation gowns—to the Sunflower Seeds effort, providing essential protection for frontline medics, caregivers, and patients in war-torn regions.

“This work has been a privilege to support,” said Dr. Marc Subik, Valley Health gastroenterologist, who led the initiative at Valley Health. “We are committed to standing with the people of Ukraine, and I am inspired by the compassion of our staff and community in making sure these supplies get where they are needed most. Every item shipped represents lives touched and hope delivered.

Founded in 2022, Sunflower Seeds Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and resources for humanitarian efforts in Ukraine’s defense of democracy. The organization’s vision is to mobilize communities in the Tri-State region and beyond to support Ukrainians through relief efforts, medical supply donations, and rebuilding projects

Dr. Mathew Weimer, Valley Health President & CEO, emphasized the importance of this collaboration. “At Valley Health, we believe that healthcare extends beyond borders. Supporting Sunflower Seeds in reaching their $100,000 goal demonstrates the power of community partnerships and our shared commitment to protecting health and human dignity—locally and globally.”

Sunflower Seeds President John Yeager praised Valley Health’s leadership in mobilizing resources. “This partnership has been invaluable. Having organizations like Valley Health stand beside us ensures that aid gets into the hands of those who need it most, directly on the ground in Ukraine.”
