Valley Health Welcomes David Tate, PharmD, to Hurricane Pharmacy Team

HURRICANE, W.Va. — After more than 15 years of serving patients in pharmacies across West Virginia, David Tate, PharmD, is bringing that experience to Valley Health Hurricane. Tate joins Valley Health Systems, Inc. on September 28, 2026.

Tate has spent his entire pharmacy career caring for patients in West Virginia communities, including more than eight years as a pharmacy manager in Milton and the past three years as a pharmacy manager in Saint Albans. He previously worked as a staff pharmacist in Huntington.  That local experience has given Tate the opportunity to build relationships with the people and communities he serves — an approach to pharmacy care that aligns closely with Valley Health’s commitment to accessible, patient-centered care.

“David understands community pharmacy because he has spent his entire career serving communities right here in West Virginia,” said Ashley Houvouras, PharmD, Valley Health Chief Pharmacy Officer. “His patients aren’t just names on a prescription — they are his neighbors. That kind of connection, combined with his experience and knowledge as a pharmacist, makes him a wonderful addition to Valley Health Hurricane.”

Tate earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy in 2011 and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from West Virginia University.  He is a registered pharmacist in both West Virginia and Virginia and is also registered as an immunizing pharmacist in both states. Tate holds Basic Life Support certification through the American Red Cross and has advanced certification in pharmacist immunization delivery.

“I’ve been fortunate to spend my career serving patients in communities throughout this area, and I’m excited to continue that work with Valley Health,” Tate said. “There is something special about community pharmacy because you get to know your patients and their families. You’re caring for people you see at the grocery store, at community events and around town. I look forward to building those same relationships with Valley Health patients in Hurricane.”

Tate lives in Scott Depot with his wife Chelsea and twins Weslee and Wythe.  Outside of work, he enjoys WVU sports and spending time with family.
