Valley Health Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Joanna Kowatli, Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), to its growing team of dental providers. Dr. Kowatli will be providing care for patients at Valley Health Upper Kanawha and Valley Health East Huntington.
Dr. Kowatli joins Valley Health after completing her two-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at NYU Langone Health – Valley Health WV, a CODA-accredited program recognized across the United States. She will treat patients of all ages, with advanced training in restorative dentistry, pediatric cases, surgical extractions, implant restoration, oral surgery, and endodontic therapy. Dr. Kowatli has also participated in numerous dental research projects and has presented on complex treatment planning, oral-systemic health connections, and advancements in implantology.

For Dr. Kowatli, joining Valley Health is both a professional and personal milestone. “As a Charleston native, I am honored to serve the community I grew up in,” said Dr. Joanna Kowatli. “My goal is to deliver high-quality dental care while helping patients feel comfortable, informed, and confident in their oral health. I am excited to continue building long-lasting relationships with patients and families here at Valley Health.”
Dr. Kowatli graduated with honors from Ajman University College of Dentistry in the United Arab Emirates, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and received the Honorary Merit of Excellence. She has received multiple academic and clinical awards, including recognition on the Chancellor’s and Dean’s Lists, and is National Board Certified through the INBDE.
With Dr. Kowatli’s addition, Valley Health’s dental team now includes more than 30 dental providers across multiple locations, continuing to expand access to affordable, high-quality oral health care in the region.
