Valley Health welcomes Dr. Michael Hackman to Behavioral Health Team

Valley Health Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce that Michael Hackman, MD, psychiatrist, is rejoining the organization as part of its growing Behavioral Health team. Dr. Hackman will provide care at Valley Health Highlawn and Valley Health Pea Ridge.

With his return, Valley Health’s Behavioral Health team now includes 41 dedicated providers serving the Tri-State region. Dr. Hackman brings extensive experience in outpatient psychiatry and addiction medicine. In his most recent role, he served as an outpatient staff psychiatrist and MAT provider at FamilyCare Health Centers in Barboursville, West Virginia.

Dr. Hackman is a graduate of Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, completed his general psychiatry residency at the West Virginia University School of Medicine Charleston Division and later obtained a sub-specialty fellowship in addition medicine through the American Board of Preventative Medicine.  His training and clinical background allow him to deliver comprehensive care for patients managing mental health conditions and substance use disorders.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Hackman back to Valley Health,” said Dr. Rebecca Denning, Section Chief of Behavioral Health at Valley Health. “His experience, dedication, and patient-centered approach will strengthen our ability to meet the mental health needs of individuals and families in our communities.”

“I am excited and eternally grateful to return to Valley Health and continue to serve the mental health needs of my fellow Appalachians,” said Dr. Michael Hackman. “The team throughout Valley Health, from Coal Grove to Upper Kanawha, is filled with extremely talented and caring folks who are committed to provide the best care for our community and it is a privilege to play a small part.”

Dr. Hackman lives in Huntington with his wife of 12 years and two young children, and several animals — two dogs, two birds, a cat, a bunny, and a turtle.   In his time away from work, Dr. Hackman enjoys cooking for his family and friends for Board Game Night, building Legos with the kids, and binge-watching shows with his wife when the children allow it.
