Cokey Muth Registered Nurse Scholarship

Valley Health Systems is offering a one-time post-secondary scholarship (up to $2,000) to patients interested in pursuing a career as a professional registered nurse.

Cokey Muth, RN served on the Board of Directors at Valley Health Systems and was a leader for healthcare development with her work on policy. She trained as a registered nurse at Bon Secours Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md. She always wanted to be a nurse and excelled in the profession as a surgical nurse at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Cokey was always thoughtful, compassionate, gracious, giving, forgiving, welcoming, tender-hearted, a champion for a cause, energetic, hard-working, fun, and so much more.  As a Board Member of Valley Health Systems, Cokey demonstrated these traits as she championed our work with a heart for the mission. She was particularly mindful of the need for quality health care and health equity for all of our patients.  She blessed and enriched the lives of all who knew her.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicant must demonstrate an understanding of the need for nursing in rural and community health care in underserved areas in West Virginia (personal statement).
2. Applicant must have received care from a Valley Health provider within the last 24 months.
3. Applicant must be currently enrolled or be accepted in a registered nurse program.
4. Applicant must describe future career goals and the potential positive impact attaining these goals could have on the applicant’s family and community (personal statement).

APPLICATION DEADLINE & REQUIREMENTS

Application deadline submission by November 1, 2023.

The following must be submitted along with your application in order for it to be considered “complete”:

• Two (2) reference letters. Reference letter to be provided by school administration or a personal contact, but should include relation to applicant, and at least one reference letter should be provided by a health care professional.
• Confirmation of current school enrollment status or confirmation of home-school status from county school board office.
• A copy of post-secondary acceptance letter (if available).
• A copy of the grade transcript with evidence of GPA reflecting of academic achievement in school or a letter of advancement from a registered nursing program must be included.
